Every year, I scope out the classic V-neck sweater section at the Tommy Hilfiger Outlet, and get myself a classic print. And every year, my sister gets me whatever I didn’t get myself as part of my Christmas present. Suffice it to say, I have way more Tommy argyle and polka dot sweaters than I can count, but this was the very first – the one that started the whole “tradition”. I’ve worn it so many times, so you can see it wears extremely well. I also love the fact that I can readily pair it with many of my other pieces, like this pleated skirt that I got from Uniqlo.
Pattern-mixing is one of the many beauties in the fashion world that in my opinion, is so much fun. Very often, I love to pull random pieces out of my wardrobe and put certain ones together to see if they’ll make an outfit. This sometimes involves pieces that both have prints. Not only is this habit of mine therapeutic, it creates endless possibilities with what seems like a limited number of articles of clothing. People often comment on how my closet must be filled from floor to ceiling and wall to wall with clothes. What most don’t realize is, I love to mix and match everything, which ends up looking as though I have enough clothing to last me for months without having to do laundry.
For this shoot downtown, I paired argyle with polka dots. I love how the two prints don’t clash but instead the bold print complements the small one, giving an interesting (yet not busy) effect. Their colors complement each other as well, which is always a plus.
If you haven’t tried print-mixing yet, please start! Try pairing this basic pink heather sweater from Tommy Hilfiger Outlet with this polka dot skirt from Zara, or if you’d like to try a different set of prints, you can do so, too! I promise you you’ll love it!!!
